A garbage slick the size of Germany is drifting in the Pacific. Using packaging that is biodegradable not only limits the drain on fossil resources but also allows biodegradable substances to enter the supply chain. The Verpackungszentrum Graz has successfully made a step in this direction by developing tubular nets using compostable Modal cellulose fibres from thinning of home forests. The nets first appeared on supermarket shelves at Rewe Austria in December 2012. 10 tonnes of plastic can be saved by Rewe alone, simply by changing the packaging for organic potatoes, onions and citrus fruit.
Calientamigos allows impoverished families living without hot running water to heat and pressurize water for bathing, cooking and cleaning. The system is comprised of three modular components: a portable electric water heater; a foot pump that pressurizes the warm water; and a multi-purpose faucet head. It heats water more quickly, at a lower cost than existing methods, is more affordable than existing market options and more accessible than installing a gravity-fed water system. We had invented Hands On Search, which is a tangible search through the combination of the search engine and a 3D printer. Items could be searched verbally and the item would automatically come out of the machine as a miniature model of the searched item. We offered this first to people who need sense of touch the most, the visually impaired. 3D data were gathered from individuals and corporations who wanted to be involved in this project. This allowed the children at schools for the visually impaired to have more experiences.
The white (or printed) PVC unit evokes the shape of a traditional house and relies on a modular structure. It is made of inflatable elements 1,60 m (usable) wide, 2,70 m long and 27 cm wide each. Anchored to a system of composite plastic platforms (recycled and recyclable material), the modules are connected by zippers that make the unit waterproof. Once the unit’s length is set, each module ends with non-inflatable filling panels that include either a door or a window. These elements, that allow for the unit’s ventilation, are also fitted with a system of side zippers. Protection from sun ray
Adaptive reused a Chinese tenement house as a Chinese Medicine Centre with minimum intervention and preserve authenticity of the old character of the building. New additions are hidden as much as possible to let the old element to be appreciated by the public. Glass enclosure is introduced to improve the clinical environment while the character of open veranda is maintained. Major façade of the building is preserved with the new exit stair put at the less obvious location. The interior design of the veranda can be seen from outside which becomes part of the façade design.
Deep consideration on our actual needs was the starting point for the research that led to the definition of an extremely basic eco-friendly chair. As universal as traditional chairs, Less Chair is an anti-diva we may have to look for, but that is never pushy. In Less Chair the inclined converging lines of the legs create an easel that firmly supports the body of the chair seat made even more comfortable by its rounded shapes that are also functional.
