Mar Mediterraneo 34

Mar Mediterraneo 34 is the restoration of a historic house in the Tacuba neighborhood of Mexico City. The house was built in 1910 in an eclectic French style and was in advanced deterioration. Artistic and handcrafted elements of the main facade were recovered, including the carved quarry stone of the lintels and balconies, the iron railings and the glass roof tiles. The main patio was rebuilt as a reinterpretation of the past, with openings in double height that rise from a volcanic stone baseboard. The restored building has three levels and seven apartments.

Mardin Cevzat Kasri

Mardin Cevzat Ecological Hotel is a restoration project for two historic stone pavilions, Cevzat Kasri and Su Kasri. Both buildings were constructed as residences at the end of the 18th century and are reached by passing through vineyards. The existing stone texture was cleaned and preserved, and missing stones were completed with local calcite stone and chipped stone. Present-day additions, such as a staircase, use steel and glass so that new work can be distinguished from the original material. The restored buildings provide eleven guest rooms, a reception, a cafe and a restaurant.

Polonceau Railway Carriage

Polonceau Railway Carriage is a multimedia installation created for a railway museum. The installation pairs a rare historical carriage with a multi-screen video wall that moves alongside it. The wall is 4.2 metres high, holds five screens and travels about 22 metres. The video shows the interior of a private premium carriage used by senior Soviet officials, including a kitchen, compartments, a drawing room and a study. Filmed scenes are combined with computer graphics, and the video is synchronised with the moving wall, so visitors see episodes that may have happened inside.

Vitality

Vitality Family Garden is a small indoor compost bin designed to process household kitchen waste. Earthworms placed inside the box eat food residues and turn them into natural fertiliser. The fertiliser is then used to grow vegetables in small planting pots. An LED planting lamp supports plant growth indoors, and its lighting modes are selected with buttons. The product is not automated, so composting and planting are completed by the user. Vitality Family Garden reduces kitchen odour and returns food waste to useful life.

Kuss

Kuss is a collection of sound absorption panels designed to reduce excessive noise in homes, open offices and other public spaces. The panels are made of an ecological and non-toxic composite. Organic-rich lake sediments, known as sapropel, are used as the binder and mixed with natural fibres. Each panel measures 500 by 720 millimetres and is 30 millimetres thick. Panels are joined into sets and hung from the top and bottom, so walls are not damaged by glue or drill holes. The extraction of sapropel also improves the quality of freshwater resources and lake ecosystems.

Out Of Sight

Out Of Sight is a social building project designed for Friars Island in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The project uses forty two twenty foot shipping containers treated with thermal insulation, forming a built area of 620 square metres. The containers house a dance school that previously operated beside the neighbouring church and three emergency social homes for local residents. A steel structural system was chosen to keep the construction light, safe and quick to build. The design follows the existing topography and supports access to culture and decent housing.
